Firefox addon visualizes political bias of websites

advertisement

While most political blogs are extremely partisan, their biases aren't immediately obvious to outsiders like me. I wanted to see, at a glance, how conservative or liberal the blogs were without clicking through to every article.

Democrat-leaning sites are colorized in blue, Republican in red. Pretty neat though it works with the Memorandum meta-blog only.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Could be fun to have one of these for Newsvine!

And a page of responses would look like something out of a barber shop!

But I have to say that is an interesting feature. Would be fun to see it applied to other news pages on the web and have people tag them.

Firefox sometimes is too much fun for its own good. Many of us still remember our StumbleUpon days (aka the couple week void in productivity in our lives).
